A Bird in the Hand

Janine’s about to have a wish come true… but of course she doesn’t know it. I mean, who would ever see that coming?
How many are sent into the ether every moment of every day, even though we’re not sure if they even exist? Do they hover in the stars waiting for that precisely perfect moment? The most deserving recipient?
Janine has no better idea than the rest of us.
So when she takes that deep, deep breath, preparing to extinguish a whole lot more candles than she’s comfortable with, she’s not thinking about money. She’s not thinking about a new house, or a new car like you might imagine. No. She’s thinking about all the things that are wrong in her life, and lately most of those seem to be all about – well, she’d be ashamed to admit it, but her face. So when that magical moment arrives – a wish that finds its target – the most compelling thing on her mind is actually time. The time she’s lost. The time she should have been taking better care – of herself.
What she wouldn’t give to be 20 years younger!
Well that’s a good question. What would she give?
What would you give to have a wish come true?
Sounds great, right? Just the thought!
But you know what they always say…
‘Be careful what you wish for.’

The Gifts

Who knows where the line is crossed to find yourself smack bang in the middle of a nervous breakdown? Is there a moment? An event? Fantasising about throttling your patients instead of gently manipulating their bodies, perhaps? I guess my less than healthy state of mind must have been apparent to everyone but me, because not long ago my friends jumped to the Nervous Breakdown conclusion on my behalf and forced me to take a holiday. I was banished to the Italian Alps. I know, I know, it sounds fabulous, but it was at the worst possible time – not that they could have known it, because I certainly wasn’t about to tell them. There are some things you just can’t share. Even with your well-meaning ex-best friends. I felt like my whole life was about to be turned upside down. And then, of course, it was.

Game, Set, Match

Sonja might no longer be headlining the world tennis circuit, but she’s still living off her star status, and she likes her life just the way it is.

She’s savvy. She’s popular. She fought hard for her independence, and won. Well of course she did! Is there anything better than winning? How else would she have arrived at the top of her game?

Okay, her major sponsor has been very quiet of late. But she’s not worried.

Life couldn’t get any better.

So when her good friend Shari makes a bet with her she has no doubt she’s going to win.

Sonja, after all, is used to winning.

But taking a bet is a roll of the dice, isn’t it? Tempting fate. Calling on the Gods of chance.

Could it be that she’s tempted fate one too many times?

What readers have to say...

A Bird in the Hand

In my opinion, the mark of a really good writer is the ability to make a flawed protagonist that the audience can still love. If that’s true, then Looson is truly a gifted writer.

Despite her many shortcomings, the main character of A Bird in the Hand, Janine, is completely relatable and equally lovable. Her struggles reflect those that most woman will readily understand: anxiety about aging, feelings of self-consciousness, and a dwindling amount of confidence and self-esteem. At the same time, Janine is so witty and charming that you’ll get a laugh on every page. Throughout the book, Janine makes mistake after mistake until she’s dug herself in a seemingly insurmountable hole. Yet, as a reader, I was still rooting for her from beginning to end. I was concerned for her well-being, anxious when her relationships started to crumble, and proud of her when she began to learn the true meaning of self-worth. Janine is the kind of character that you can get attached to. By the end, I felt like I really knew her.

If you want a book that’s going to stay with you long after you finish it, do yourself a favour and grab a copy of A Bird in the Hand. You’ll be glad you did.

A Bird in the Hand

This is a must read book that will make you laugh, cry, think, along with many more emotions! Starts out like an ordinary book that you read a little here and there, then about halfway through it grabs you and the lessons begin and before you know it you can’t put it down. I highly recommend this book and give it the highest ratings 🙂

Ali's Wings

Ali’s moved around a lot, had as many careers as past addresses, and she’s inclined to fall in love at the drop of a hat; just never with the right guy.

So it’s time to get her act together, focus on her ‘Bread and Butter’ modelling work, and avoid making her usual romantic mistakes. No more men for her.

She moves home, ready to get her life in order, and find some peace.

Then she meets someone charismatic and charming. Handsome in an unexpected way. Worldly… and wealthy.

Ali, however, is not interested. Really, she isn’t.

But her sister thinks he’s the perfect man for her, and if her sister thinks he’s great, then he must be.

Before Ali knows it, she’s been swept off her feet, and they’re making plans. Amazing plans.

Even her career is taking off.

Can it be? Can she really have found her Happy Ever After?

Can she finally put to rest that little voice in her head that constantly whispers, “Isn’t this all too good to be true?

``Your vision will become clear only when you look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.``
